Fire has gutted the wholesale factory of Royal Foams, a leading dealer of mattresses, pillows and beddings in Kumasi in the Ashanti region.

The fire is said to have started from the factory floor located at Ayigya, close to the Calvary Charismatic Centre in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

Fire tenders from the Manhyia divisional fire station, the KMA fire station, the regional fire headquarters at Kyerapatre, the KNUST fire station and the Manhyia Fire station were all been deployed to the company’s premises.

Ashanti regional public relations officer for the Fire Service ADO 1 Desmond Ackah told Ultimate News, fire personnel have had it tough battling the fire because of the combustible chemicals and materials that the factory works with.

“We are now using water and foam to control the flames. All fire tenders have been marshalled to ensure that we bring the fire under control,” he told reporter Ivan Heathcote – Fumador.

ADO 1 Desmond Ackah, however, noted that the fire personnel are confronted with the non-availability of hydrants in the entire area.

“Our tenders had to go all the way to KNUST to replenish their tanks. That’s why we had to deploy more machines to prevent our trucks from running out,” he lamented.

ADO 1 Ackah pointed out that no human casualties had been found in the fire yet.

He also indicated that the fire service is yet to get in touch with any of the owners and managers of the facility.
