The Circuit Court in Accra has sentenced one Frederick Laryea to 10 years in jail with hard labour for defiling a 15-year-old girl (name withheld) after pleading guilty to the offence.

The court presided over by Her Honour Mrs Christina Cann, sentenced the accused person who is unemployed on his own plea after admitting to the offence when the charge was read to him.

It was the case of the prosecution led by DSP Agnes Boafo that the complainant is a trader and resides at Bubiashie (Orgle Road) with the victim, who is her daughter.

The convict is an unemployed man living in the same house with both the complainant and the victim.

According to the prosecutor, between the months of June and August, 2018, the accused person started luring the victim into his room and having sexual intercourse with her.

The prosecutor added that the accused at a point stopped having sexual intercourse with the victim because he had been confronted by the complainant to stay away from her daughter.

“In March 2019, the accused started having sexual intercourse with the victim again in a bathroom inside the house and sometimes in his room despite the complainant’s warning and impregnated her in the month of September, 2019.”

“The complainant”, according to the prosecution, “detected that, the victim was pregnant and questioned the victim.”

According to DSP Boafo, the victim narrated her ordeal to the complainant (mother) and the complainant confronted the accused person. The accused person since then went into hiding until April 9, 2020, when he was spotted at Dansoman Russia.

He was subsequently arrested with the assistance of a police patrol team.

The prosecution said the complainant reported the case at the Kaneshie office of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) and a police medical form was issued to the victim to be taken to the hospital for examination and treatment.

“The medical officer, after examination, confirmed that the victim had been sexually abused and impregnated,” the prosecutor told the court.

DSP Boafo said during interrogations, the accused person admitted to the offence and was subsequently charged and put before the court.
