The Ghana Tourism Authority has announced that drinking bars in the country can begin operation while observing the social distancing guidelines in the wake of COVID-19.

The authority also indicated that all hotels can operate as normal “subject to the specified elevated hygiene protocols and social distancing”.

It however noted that night clubs will remain closed.

The GTA made this announcement in a presser highlighting the guidelines for the hospitality industry following the Presidents address to the nation on May 10.

The President as part of his series of Covid-19 updates extended the ban on public gathering to May 31.

The presser signed May 11 read “food chains and restaurants can operate sit-down as well as pick-up and delivery services while observing appropriate social distancing and hygiene protocols. All night clubs must remain closed”.

The statement went on “drinking bars can operate while observing appropriate social distancing and hygiene protocols. In all situations, hospitality facilities should observe tho staff management and workplace protocols and precaution, measures on public gatherings with the view of achieving social distancing and hygiene protocols as spelt out in the Imposition of Restrictions (Coronavirus Di (COVID-19) Pandemic) Instrument. 2020 (E.I. 64).”
