The American wing of the New Patriotic Party has joined the country to mourn the late former general-secretary of the party Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie aka Sir John who died from Covid-19 July 1.

The group in its tribute says “a million words would not bring him back, neither would a million tears, we know because we have tried, as it received the news of the sudden demise of the forestry commission boss.with dismay and sorrow.”

The full statement signed by the branch secretary Augustine Yao Agbenaza reads:

Sir John was an unshakable stalwart of the Elephant Party and an uncompromising friend of our Branch. He always availed himself to us when we called him up and was deeply instrumental in expanding the reach of the Branch by helping to nurture and grow a lot of our Chapters during his time as the General Secretary of our beloved party.

He developed personal relationships with a lot of our members and mentored many among us.  He was affectionately called by many as “Wofa Sir John”.

His love and concern for his country and Party were always evident and his unique style of Communication and leadership was authentic and welcoming.

His sense of humor and his eloquent use of proverbs and his stylish use of figurative expressions in his communication was unsurpassed.

We will never forget his passion and above all his enduring values and wise counsel to all – proclaiming the infamous, “Fear Delegates” mantra that has now become part of our political lexicon.

He never let name calling offends him but rather turn it around into a positive term that everyone comes to love and appreciate, especially his political opponents. He extended himself beyond his Party and made many friends with his opponents and wittily ridicules them as well.

Sir John, Wonoo Krakye, you will be sorely missed by your NPP-USA family.

NPP-USA extends our deepest condolences to his family, friends and the entire NPP fraternity.

He made his mark, let us as a Party find something to immortalize his memory.

The Elephant Family has lost a true patriot! NPP-USA will miss you forever!

Rest peacefully in the bosom of your Creator.

Damirifa Due! Due ne amanehunu!!
