Leader of the APC Dr Hassan Ayariga has insisted that the current voters register is more credible than the newly compiled one by the Electoral Commission.

He says if the purpose of the newly compiled register was to remove minors and foreigners from the roll, it has been defeated.

The EC announced that the newly compiled voter’s register still had a number of minors and foreigners.

But Mr Ayariga maintains that if the voter’s roll still contained these persons, then there was no reason for the compilation.

Speaking with Lantam Papanko on the Morning Starr Monday he said: “if the purpose of the new register was to remove minors and foreigners and now the EC has come out to say we have minors and foreigners on it, then what was the purpose?”

He went on “in many cases, NPP and NDC brought in foreigners, minors, and vouched for them but in the other register, that didn’t happen. Yet the two parties are fighting to be voted for. And why is the President saying the new register is the best and most credible?”

“What criteria is the president using in saying the new register is the most credible in Ghana’s history? Who told him that? I will say the current register is more credible than the newly compiled one. We don’t have the data to create a credible register.”

Dr Ayariga who is also the Chairman of the Coalition Against Compilation of New Register noted “let’s focus on data rather than assumptions. Look at the data we have today, we have about 16 million-plus coming to register with the EC saying that there are foreigners and minors.”

“Even with the new voter’s register we’ve compiled, people have passed on. People die every day. People turn 18 every day.”

The politician will on Tuesday be acclaimed as the flagbearer for his party for the December polls.
