The Progress Upper West Music Awards Scheme is set for its 6th edition.

The event, organized by the first Radio station in the Upper West Region Radio Progress 98.1fm in Wa, has run for five successive years and aims at honoring and promoting music talents as well as nurture young ones in the Upper West Region of Ghana.

The awards scheme has seen laudable improvements this year with its new Board Chairman, Nuhu Tuurosung, including its first-ever Nominees’ Seminar which came off on Saturday 26th September 2020 at Upland Hotel in the regional capital, Wa.

The seminar featured a host of carefully selected and experienced speakers in the creative arts industry including global icon Wiyaala (The Lioness of Africa), PRUMAS Board Chairman and CEO of Echosoundz Multimedia Limited, Nuhu Tuurosung (Echosoundz), Upper West MUSIGA Secretary, Aziz Sungumo, CEO of harmattangh.com, Joe Bilbod and CEO of Ghgoonline.com, Hillia Gbene Mashood. The speakers presented on topics such as “Branding as a Musician”, “Opportunities as a PRUMAS Awardee”, “Relationship Between MUSIGA and Artistes” and “Music Online Marketing and Monetization.”

The seminar, according to musicians, talent managers and personalities in attendance, was nothing short of insightful and knowledgeable. They stated that it is an impressive addition to the awards scheme and they would love to see more of such events which aim at educating and grooming talents in the region.

This year’s edition features new categories such as Best Party Seekers of the Year and Musician Fan Base of the Year, which seek to appreciate music enthusiasts and Best DJ of the Year, which aims at appreciating and highlighting the significance of DJs in the creative art industry. The Best DJ of the Year category also aims at promoting up and coming DJs in the region.

PRUMAS 2020 also saw the introduction of a USSD code (*389*963#) which enables bulk voting via the various MOMO wallets. This has also been commended by various stakeholders including Artistes, talent managers and fans/ music lovers as it reduces the stress associated with voting multiple times through SMS text messages.

The organizers have other upcoming activities such as Nominees’ Dinner, Nominees’ Jams and Nominees’ Health Screening before the main event.

This year’s edition (PRUMAS2020) is power packed and goes beyond just the handing over of plagues and prizes to Artistes. It is an engaging experience which seeks to positively impact the creative arts industry in the region.

The main event, slated for Saturday 31st October 2020, comes off at the In-Service Training Centre in Wa, the regional capital.  It promises to be outstanding and fun-packed with a host of personalities from the region and beyond.
