The late Ghanaian leader JJ Rawlings will be buried today Wednesday, January 27, after a three-day long state funeral.

Ghana President Akufo-Addo, Liberia President George Weah and Sierra Leone President, Julius Maada Bio are expected to attend the funeral which is currently ongoing.

The Gambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mamadou Tangara, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel Dr. Ibn Chambas and delegations from the ECOWAS Commission, Equatorial Guinea and Nigeria, are also expected at the state funeral.

The remains of Mr Rawlings who ruled Ghana for 19 years had been laid in state for public viewing since Monday.

The late President will be buried at the Military cemetery in Accra after government and his family reached an agreement on the location of his burial.

Mr Rawlings died on November 12, 2020 at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.
