The Member of Parliament for the Akatsi North Constituency, Peter Nortsu-Kotoe and Pencils of Promise, an NGO have cut sod for the commencement of work on a 3-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities for the Nudowukorpe D/A Basic school.

The school is among a few others in the Akatsi North District still grappling with infrastructure challenge since its establishment some years back.

Though the project is being funded by Pencils of Promise, the MP is expected to support with money in the estimation of GHC45,000.00.

The money from the MP would cover 20% of the project cost.

The project is also expected to be completed within a three month duration and would be the eighth to have been built and commissioned in the Akatsi North District by Pencils of Promise with support from the MP.

Already, schools at Kpoye, Atanve, Korve, Dzalele, Fiave-Sanyi, Ave-Adzigo and Kpegbadza have benefited from this initiative aimed at removing schools under trees.

Speaking to the media during the sod cutting on Wednesday, the MP, Peter Nortsu-Kotoe noted that the District has made a tremendous progress towards the removal of schools under trees with partnership and support from NGOs, most especially Pencils of Promise.

He said, “As far as education and or school infrastructure is concerned in our district, we have gone far. It has always been my desire that no school in the district would be without classroom accommodation because years ago, we didn’t have the opportunity to study in comfortable classrooms but now that we are in various positions, it’s our duty to ensure that this becomes a thing of the past, so that our younger ones also have a good learning environment and I can assure you that in that direction, we have made tremendous efforts that are yielding good results.”

He added that, “By this desire, we have partnered a number of NGOs especially Pencils of Promise who are building for us the eighth facility and with the role they are playing in our education, we can only be grateful to them.”

According to the Project Manager of Pencils of Promise, Mr. Anthony Quashigah, working in the Akatsi North district has been successful due to the support they receive from stakeholders including the District Assembly.
