A group of Assembly members belonging to the governing New Patriotic Party in Asante Akyem central has disassociated itself from any endorsement of the Municipal Chief Executive Susan Akomeah for re-nomination by President Akufo-Addo.

The move follows a press conference by some members of the assembly calling on the president to retain Madam Susan as MCE. Addressing the media at Konongo, secretary to the group calling itself NPP Assembly members caucus Hon. Alex Nyarko stated the President must be given the free hand to appoint whoever is deems fit to oversee the development of the municipality.

According to him the assembly members led by presiding member have not met to discuss or endorse any body’s candidature. Mr. Nyarko thus asked residents to disregard any supposed endorsement from assembly members.

Hon. Alex Nyarko who doubles as the NPP Constituency financial secretary revealed Madam Susan Akomeah has not even sent her details to the party’s committee to show her interest in the position, so it will be suicidal to endorse someone who has no interest in a position.

Another assemblyman Hon. Jones Osei Asamoah revealed that some colleague assembly members are also vying for the same position and the caucus cannot say it cannot work with certain people when given to the opportunity by the President in the area.

President Akufo-Addo has directed all MMDCEs to remain in office until substantive nominations are made for consideration by the various assemblies.
