The Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police Service has refuted claims that Editor for Whatsapp News Editor David Tamakloe was arrested at gunpoint.

On Friday South Dayi lawmaker Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor called for the release of Mr Tamakloe who he said was reportedly arrested and detained by the Police Thursday, March 1.

Mr Dafeamekpor in a statement bemoaned what he said is the use of state security agencies by the government to muscle out critical media. The reason for the arrest at the time was unknown.

But the police in a statement signed by CID head of Public Affairs DSP Juliana Obeng said Mr Tamakloe was arrested on alleged offences of extortion and publication of false news.
