While the juvenile season has started across most parts of the country, the regular season in the Sekondi-Takoradi Municipal Assembly is yet to commence.

As part of their preparations to begin the season, the Sekondi-Takoradi District Juvenile Football Associa in collaboration with the Western Region Football Association organised a gala tournament to keep the players in shape.

The main purpose of the gala was to create awareness to the general public prior to the commencement of the juvenile league in the assembly, help club owners and managers to bring back their players together after a long break due to the halting of colts football. Also, to lure other talent around to join the various teams in their community.

The tournament took place over the weekend of May 15 and 16 at the Bankyease Astro Turf, requiring the participating teams to field players for the Under-13 and Under-15 sides.

14 teams were extended invitation to participate in the tournament including; Kassel Rangers, New Amanful Rangers, Sedan Babies, Westside Babies, Seku’s Babies, Kansawonders Babies, Kansa Young Barcelona Babies, Sekondi Soccer Academy, Asamensudo Bayern Munich, Timoskay FC, To Be FC, Takoradi Zamalek Babies, Rail Stars Babies and Ville Afrique.

In the Under-13 division, To Be FC beat Sedan Babies by a lone goal to nil to clinch the trophy on Sunday, May 16, with New Amanful Rangers finishing as second runners-up.

For the Under-15 edition, Kassel Rangers were crowned champions of the division following their 5-4 win on penalties against Sedan Babies – the latter failing to also win the cup after their U-13 side also finished second.

Takoradi Zamalek Babies also came in third place.

In attendance during the tournament was the Metropolitan Assembly Chief Executive, Hon. Abdul Mumin Issah Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly District Football Association chairman, Mr Kwesi Annan as well as other executive committee members.

They also used the opportunity pre-launch the upcoming juvenile league in the metropolitan assembly.
