The Chiefs and people of Denkyira Bremang in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Central Region have purified the land with libation after an illegal mining pit collapsed killing three illegal miners.

The chiefs also slaughtered sheep to drive away evil spirits that they say may take advantage of the incident to kill more people.

Over fifty people were stuck in the pit, per the story starrfm.com.gh broke last week.

In an interview with Kasapa FM’s Yaw Boagyan, the Chief linguist for Denkyira Traditional Council Odeefour Kyeame Kyeame Henapong said “whenever someone meets his or her untimely death, Nananom has to pour libation and slaughter a sheep to honor the gods of the land and to take the person’s soul home.”

He indicated that Nananom was going to form a voluntary task force to monitor the mining site and urged Ghanaians especially those in Denkyira to be disciplined and respect the laws of the land.

The assembly member for Denkyira Bremang electoral area Francis Agyapong said after the incident, he had visited the families of the deceased to sympathize with them.

“Watchdogs have been also formed to monitor all the galamsey sites in the Dunkwa Breman area to see to it that nobody is getting involved in illegal mining.
