Over 300 men thronged the Takoradi Mall in the Western Region for the maiden edition of Empire 102.7 FM’s free prostate cancer screening, on Saturday, June 26, 2021.

The event which was massively patronized was preluded by weeks of education and sensitization on prostate cancer on air.

Although research on cancer is a paucity, the little cognizance gathered proves the incidence of prostate cancer is increasing in sub-Saharan Africa out of which Ghana is not an exception. It is among the most commonly diagnosed cancers among men in the subregion.

Despite the increasing trend of PC in the subregion, there is paucity of research on the disease. Also, prostate cancer awareness and knowledge about its prevention is low in the subregion.

The event begun by 9am by which over a hundred patrons were already waiting to get screened. The process comprised three main steps, first was the checking of vitals, then to the Prostate-Specific Antigen Test, to the final stage which was the medical check by medical professional for West View Medical Centre in Takoradi.

In his observation of the exercise, the CEO of West View Medical Centre, Dr. Joseph Ansong was overwhelmed by the success of the event.

“Entirely the screening has been very successful, the patronage has been overwhelming, I’m impressed by the patronage by the entire twin-city and beyond,” he said.

Dr Ansong revealed that even though the exercise was mainly on prostate cancer, it brought to bear a couple of health predicament patrons were battling,“ apart from the prostate related conditions there were other issues we had to deal with, quite a number of them had severe hypertension”.

This is says gave the medical team an opportunity to council them appropriately.
Business Manager of Empire FM, Mr. Enoch Asare is popularly known as Feeling Daddy was equally overwhelmed by the success of the event. Thus making him assert that the event has come to saty and will be held annually.

“it’s been very successful we have done close to four hundred and overwhelmed, it is something that Empire FM will be doing annually for fathers”, the elated business manager expressed.

Mr. Asare also expressed an undiluted appreciation to sponsors who contributed to making the event a success.

” I want to say a big thank you to those who came on board to support us, First National Bank, GOIL, Waste 360 Environmental and Management Services, Takoradi Mall Ltd, Radio 360 and GHOne Tv”.

Owing to the success of the maiden edition, Feeling Daddy seized the opportunity to encourage other corporate organizations to support the event in subsequent year editions.
Some patrons also expressed their appreciation to the organizers,

“ I’m an ardent listener of Empire FM and I definitely made it a point to be here , It’s been a good experience, at least I now know my status with regards to my prostate and I’ve been advised on what to do and what not to do”

“most of us we don’t have time to visit the hospital, so if an organization is giving us such an opportunity that’s good, thumbs up to the organizers “

“ Everything was in order, I’m happy I took advantage of such an opportunity”.
