The Commonwealth Games Association of Ghana has announced 26th October, 2021 as the date of arrival of the Queen’s Baton in Ghana.

The 22nd edition of the Commonwealth games will be hosted in Birmingham next year – the third to occur in England after London 1934 and Manchester 2002.

According to the President of the Commonwealth Games Association of Ghana, Ben Nunoo Mensah, the baton would travel across the principal streets of Accra, Kumasi and Tema with dignitaries like the President of the Republic of Ghana and the Asantehene, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II.

“We are hoping that the President will receive the baton and then we will hold a ceremony at the Presidency and it will start going around throughout the country….the baton will do a run in Kumasi as well where it would be received by his Royal majesty Otumfuor.

“The baton will eventually leave Ghana on the 28th to Cameroon and that would end its run in Ghana.” He added.

The Commonwealth games which seeks to bring the best in Athletes of its member countries has discovered Ghanaian talents like Jessie Lartey and Ignisious Gaisah among others.

The competition would commence on 8th July and end on 2nd August, 2022.
