The Reddit social media site went down unexpectedly, preventing users from accessing the website or app.

According to the DownDetector website, which tracks internet outages, users were experiencing issues around 9:40 pm GMT (4:40 pm EDT).

Many Users also went to Twitter to share their problems, although it is currently unclear what the cause of the failure is.

The independent one reached out to Reddit for more information, but the company has acknowledged the issue.

“We are currently investigating this problem,” said a tweet on the official Reddit status account.

The outage follows issues with Snapchat, which went offline briefly last week, as well as Facebook – which had a shocking five-hour outage that brought WhatsApp and Instagram with it.

The main reason for this outage was an incorrect routine maintenance command that locked Facebook out of its workspace suite and forced the company to physically access its data centers.

More to come …
