Asante Kotoko managed a slim win over   newly promoted side, Bibiani Gold Stars at the Duns Park in the opening fixture of match week three of the 2021/2022 Ghana Premier League season.

Gold Stars had a very impressive game but couldn’t capitalize on the numerous chances created especially in the first part of the match.

Kotoko found it difficult to utilize the aerial balls in front of goal as the height of Gold Stars’ Yakubu became a barrier for the visitors.

Prince Kwabena Owusu and Michael Etu were both close to scoring for the hosts but the defence of the Porcupines and brilliant saves from Razak Abalora ensured that the first half ended goalless.

After the break, Kotoko dealt with some quick attacks before grabbing the golden moment to put Gold Stars behind.

Referee Maxwell Hansen waved play to continue when Patrick Asmah was brought down in the course of attack.

Isaac Oppong picked up the ball which was rolling towards a favourable space upfront, curled the ball past Yaw Ansah Fufro to give the Porcupine Warriors the lead.

That goal means Isaac Oppong has 2 goals and three assists so far in the season.

The Gye Nyame lads couldn’t bounce back despite the threats they posed with some excellent runs from all corners of attack.

On the 90th minute, Razak Abalora blocked another magnificent drive with his knee to protect the Kotoko lead.

The win has kept Kumasi Asante Kotoko on top of the league log with a one hundred percent record from three matches.

The match day three fixtures will continue on Saturday and Sunday at various venues across the country.
