Former IBF lightweight champion Richard Commey will battle former three division world champion, Vasiliy Lomachenko on December 11 in New York City in his final fight of the year.

Commey (30-3) was defeated by Teofimo Lopez for the IBF Lightweight title in December 2019 . He made a comeback in February this year, knocking out Jackson Marinez.

However, the highly rated pound for pound boxer Lomachenko, also lost his lightweight belts to Teofimo Lopez in October 2020.

Speaking ahead of the bout Lomachenko said he will not underestimate Richard Commey and he will be prepared for whatever he brings on December 11.

“It is always special when I fight at Madison Square Garden, where so many great moments in my career have taken place. Richard Commey is a former world champion, an opponent I will not underestimate. I expect the best version of Commey, and I will be prepared for whatever he brings on December 11.”

Speaking to Starr FM sports, Commey admitted he expects a difficult bout against Lomanchenko but he is battle-ready to make himself, the country and management team proud.

“It’s not going to be an easy fight because he’s been around for so many years and he has the experience ”

“The fire in me is still there and it is what it is so I am looking forward to make my country, myself and management team proud come December 11, 2021.”
