Kojo Oppong Nkrumah is Information Minister

Government has condemned the attack on Radio Ada in the Greater Accra region by some suspected thugs.

According to Management of Radio Ada, the station was violently attacked by a group of eight men on Thursday,  January 2022 at about 11:30 a.m.

“The attackers, one of whom was armed with a pistol, invaded the on-air studio by forcibly destroying its door open. They beat up the presenter and vandalized the on-air studio equipment, leading to the temporary shut-down of Radio Ada,” Management narrated in a statement.

In a statement, the Information Minister said the attack is unacceptable urging the Police bring the suspects to book.

“The Ministry condemns the reported attack and has asked the District Police Command to ensure that the culprits are sanctioned. There is no justification for a group of people to physically attack a radio station and its staff for comments made on air.

If a party is aggrieved at media comments, there are legitimate and legal avenues for seeking redress. The National Media Commission or the Courts constitute legitimate places to register displeasure at the conduct of the media for investigations. Where content is believed to have the potential to offend the security of a jurisdiction, the Police may be invited to consider the situation and take appropriate action,” the Government statement said.
