Captain for the black stars Andre Ayew has apologized to Ghanaians for their awful performance in the AFCON21 tournament in Cameroon. The Black Stars were crushed out of the tournament on tuesday following a 3-2 defeat to debutant Comoros. For the first time in the history of Ghana, the team failed to win a single game in an AFCON tournament, Ghana’s worst ever AFCON campaign.

“As the players calm our heads we take the criticism and apologize to the nation for not qualifying to the next stage. We are very disappointed”

“We didn’t make them proud and we take the responsibility for that. We didn’t have a good AFCON. The goals we conceded against Morocco and Gabon, you can see there was a lot of no luck” he added.

The Black Stars are expected to return home on Thursday.

Ghana’s next assignment will be the World Cup qualifiers in March.
