The Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has indicated that over 220 Ghanaians living in Ukraine are expected to touch down in Ghana soon.

“I am pleased to inform you that, a good number, over 220 of our compatriots have exited Ukraine and should be with us in Ghana soon, and we are earnestly facilitating the safe return of a lot more.

“24 have arrived in Bucharest, Romania, and our officer on the ground is procuring tickets for them to leave tomorrow Monday en route to Accra,” the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey disclosed to the media on Sunday.

According to her, student leaders and Ghana’s diplomatic officers, honorary consuls are facilitating the movement to some neighboring countries.

She mentioned Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic are countries Ghanaians in Ukraine are being evacuated from Ukraine by bus for the available flight back to Ghana.

“As at midday, today Sunday information gathered is that over 460 students have left Ukraine en route to Poland, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic. The students will be received by our diplomatic missions, honorary consuls, and officials of the student’s union and associations,” she added.

Mrs. Ayorkor Botchwey added that Ghanaians numbering 24 are already at the airport in Romania ready to board a Qatar Airways flight to Ghana.

The Minister, however, added that the government is committed to evacuating Ghanaians who are willing to come back to Ghana.
