Former President John Mahama has called on government to be serious with investigations into the murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale.

Mr Mahama while eulogising the killing of Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh said the government of Ghana must pile pressure on the Police to bring the killers of the investigative journalist to book.

“The killing of ace Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh is a most condemnable act. For a journalist who has for many years covered and brought us reports of events in Israel and the Middle East region, we all mourn her loss. It is our prayer that whoever pulled the trigger and any associates will be brought to justice through an Independent and transparent process.

“Having said that, we also note that the murderers of Ghanaian journalist, Ahmed Suale, are still walking free. We call on the Akufo-Addo administration and the Police Service to take this investigation seriously and bring the murderers to justice,” Mr Mahama said.

AG on Suale’s murder (July 2021)

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has still not built and presented any docket on the case involving the murder of Ahmed Hussein-Suale to the Office of the Attorney-General (AG) for prosecution

Although the CID has been investigating the case since Suale was murdered in January 6, 2019, it is yet to present any docket on the case to the A-G.

The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Mr Godfred Yeboah Dame, disclosed this in his response to a question posed by the Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu, Mr Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa.

Mr Ablakwa sought to find out the status of the pursuit of justice in some unresolved murder cases in the country. The cases include those of Ahmed Suale, Mr J. B. Danquah Adu, Mr Ekow Hayford, and Professor Emmanuel Benneh.
