The Ashanti regional branch of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has paid for the discharge of several nursing mothers who were in detention at the Komfo Anokye Teaching hospital after the delivery of their babies.
The mothers had been in detention for several weeks due to their inability to pay their medical bills after delivery.
The GBA as part of the global father’s day celebration led by the Ashanti regional President of the association Kwame Owusu Sekyere on behalf of the Association’s National president Yaw Boafo paid a surprise visit to the mothers in detention to settle their bills to facilitate their freedom.
The association presented Ghc 20,000 cash to the management of the Mother and Baby Unit (MBU) to be used to settle the medical bills of pregnant women who delivered their babies in detention.
The money presented to the hospital is expected to discharge over 20 mothers and their babies in detention.
The association from the hospital proceeded to the Kumasi central prisons where they donated sanitary materials, such as sanitary pads, detergents, food items to the female inmates and medicine to be used to run the facilities infirmary.
Speaking to GHone, the News Ashanti regional President of Ghana Bar Association Counsel Kwame Owusu Sekyere said, the donation forms part of GBA’s corporate social responsibility to the Country
