The Parliamentary election petition against the Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Dorcas Toffey has been thrown out by Sekondi High Court in the Western region.

The case filed by Joshua Emuah Kofie challenged the nationality of the MP.

But the court in its ruling held that the Jomoro lawmaker Dorcas Toffey was validly elected by the people of Jomoro and qualifies to be in parliament.

However, the court presided by Justice Sedinam Agbemava awarded a cost of GHC5,000 against the MP for a contempt filed against her by the petitioner because she allegedly failed to appear in court to provide the required documents proving her renunciation of the alleged dual citizenship..

This was after her lawyer, Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe pleaded his client could not afford an amount of 20,000 requested by the petitioner’s lawyer, Bright Okyere Agyekum against the MP.

The Jomoro MP was present at the Court with her lawyers Edudzi Tamakloe, James Agalga, Marrieta Brew Oppong, former Attorney General.

Others present were Former National Security Minister, Kofi Totobi Quakye, MP for Ellembelle, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, Embattled Assin North MP, James Gyekye Quayson and Western regional NDC Executives.
