The Finance Ministry has clarified that total energy sector payments to Independent Power Producers(IPPs) amounted to GH₵17.31 billion over the period 2017-2020.

At least six IPPs received these payments including; Karpower, Cenpower, Amandi Energy, Sunon Asogli, Ameri Energy, and AKSA, the Finance Ministry has revealed.

Out of the amount, GH₵10.01 billion was paid to power producers in relation to shortfall in capacity payments (GH₵5.02 billion) and GH₵4.99 billion was used as excess capacity payments while the remaining GH₵7.31 billion was used for payments to fuel suppliers for the period mentioned.

This was in response to the minority’s demand for a clarification of the total energy sector payments to Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and the total debt accumulated prior to 2020.

Also, the Finance Ministry disclosed that an amount of GH₵339,003,064.86 has been released for the construction of the National Cathedral so far.

A document sighted by Starrfm.com.gh forwarded to the parliamentary Adhoc Committee following a request for the total amount spent by the government on the National Cathedral further revealed a total amount of GH₵113,040,654.86 paid to the consulting firm for the construction of the Cathedral, Messers Sir David Adjaye and Associates.
