Over the weekend, as part of the build up to the coverage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the EIB Network organized a football tournament dubbed the “EIB Community World Cup Gala” at the Kotobabi Wembly park.

The football gala, saw seven foreign missions in Ghana whose countries have qualified to the World Cup join Ghana (represented by the EIB Network) for the tournament.

The countries that participated were USA Canada, Spain, Portugal, Great Britain, Germany, Ghana and Australia.

The 8 teams were then drawn into 2 groups with 4 teams in each group.

Group A comprised of Australia, Canada, USA and Great Britain as Group B housed Portugal, Germany, Ghana and Spain.

The format was an “all play all” where the top 2 teams from the groups progressed to the semi-final stage.

Great Britain ended up as winners of the inaugural edition of the EIB Community World Cup tournament.

Great Britain hammered Ghana 4-1 in the finals to emerge champions of the keenly contested games.

In Group A, Great Britain finished with 9 points after winning all games whiles Australia finished second with 6 points.

Ghana topped Group B with 7 points after beating Spain 1-0, Germany 2-1 and drawing 3-3 with Portugal.

Ghana then beat Australia 3-1 in the semi-final before losing to Germany 1-4 in the final.

In attendance were Nathan Kwabena Anokye Adisi (Chief Executive Officer,EIB) popularly known as Bola Ray, Santokh Singh (Chief Operations Officer of the EIB Network) and Nana Aba Anamoah (General Manager for GHONE TV and Starr FM)

Acting high commissioner for Canada Kathleen Flynn-Dapaah and the husband, Kenneth Dapaah , Harriet Thompson( UK high commissioner), Irchad Razaaly (EU Ambassador to Ghana) , Samson Koech (Deputy Head of Mission, Kenya), Antonio Fernandes ( Honorary Consul of Portugal) , Meher Kheir (Lebanese Ambassador )Princess Cheryl (CEO of Rocabella, USA) and Albert Kwabena Dwumfuor ( President of the Ghana Journalists Association).
