Management of the National Service Scheme says it has begun investigations into the alleged attack on a nurse by the Ashanti Regional Director of the Scheme, Alex Opoku-Mensah.

“The Management has, since the development, invited the officer for preliminary investigations into the incident, management of the NSS said in a statement on Tuesday.

Mr. Opoku-Mensah allegedly attacked a nurse at post at the Manhyia Government Hospital in Kumasi.

The attack was reportedly in response to the alleged intimidation of his daughter who is undergoing her medical housemanship by the said nurse.

His daughter who happened to be in the same hospital had reported to him about the nurse who she accused of intimidating her at the health facility.

In an audio recording, the angry NSS director is heard raining insults on the nurse describing the nurse who questioned his daughter as an unqualified nurse who gained admission into nursing training school through sexual favours.

Reacting to the development, the GRNMA in a statement said nurses in the facility will embark on a strike action if the government does not sack Mr. Opoku Mensah from his position.

The association has therefore given the government 72 hours ultimatum to act on their demand.

However, the management of the scheme has condemned the incident and reiterated its commitment to get to the bottom of the matter as it investigates the official involved.

“The public will be updated accordingly,” said the NSS statement.
