President Akufo-Addo inspecting the design of Ghana's national cathedral

Chairman for the Political Affairs Committee of the CPP, Kwame Jantuah says President Nana Akufo-Addo cannot deal with the alleged financial malfeasance with the construction of the National Cathedral project.

His comment comes on the back of two members of the Board of Trustees of the Cathedral project, Archbishop Duncan Williams and Rev. Eastwood Anaba calling for the immediate suspension and an audit carried out on the project.

According to them, their call is based on the controversies surrounding the project, adding that this call if heeded will allow for transparency and accountability to be provided to the Ghanaians.

The two theologians in a memo to the Board of Trustees on Monday, January 23, called for an independent audit into the expenditures of the project which must be done by nationally recognized auditors.

Commenting on the development on Starr News Mr. Jantuah expressed worry why President Akufo-Addo has failed to take such steps by the two board members.

“The two members are Archbishop Duncan Williams and Rev. Eastwood Annaba. They have shown a kind of leadership that the President should have shown. The audit of cathedral funds, the President should have said, okay hold it, let’s do an audit and let’s see how the funds have been used. But because his cousin is Finance Minister he can’t do it as it will show up. If it shows up it will mean he has to act on the Finance Minister, and that he won’t do. And the other board members didn’t think it was the right thing to do? The moment Dag Heward triggered it, all the board members should have said hold it. Go into it, let’s go see the President and recommend that we do an audit because it doesn’t look good for the country,” Mr. Jantuah stated.

He continued: “Did it happen, what did the President say? He actually had morning sessions where they prayed. God doesn’t throw manna from heaven, it depends on what you are doing for God to also support what you are doing. What the two of them did was the work of the President to do and if you did it you would have shown effective leadership.

“Unfortunately with the Cathedral because he is drunk with it, he doesn’t listen to anybody where that is concerned. Let’s hope this will open his eyes to be able to show the kind of leadership that is required. I continuously say, let’s bring the National Cathedral to Ghana at 71 period.”
