Ranking member of the Education Committee of Parliament, Peter Nortsu Kotoe is pushing for change in personnel managing the Computerized School Selection System.
It follows a report by The FourthEstate alleging corruption in the school placement system.
According to the media outlet, even though the Education Minister and Director General of the Ghana Education Service were the only ones given access and password to approve protocol placement in category A Senior High Schools, placement into such schools have been through a network of intermediaries that included cleaners and security guards.
“Speaking to Starr News, Mr Norstu-Kotoe stated that a change in personnel will help reduce corruption.
“It is good that this expose has come out at this time, particularly when we are about to go for another placement. Those responsible for the placement, I have recommended that the Minister for Education and the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service should constitute a new team. Those who were responsible last year should not be allowed to handle the system this year. Those who will be appointed or engaged should be under scrutiny and surveillance so that they don’t repeat what we have seen in the video this year around.”
Mr Nortsu-Kotoe believes that failure of the State to upgrade category B schools to A is fueling corruption in the school selection system.
