The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey is urging the people of the Volta region especially the youth to remain loyal and committed to the NDC.

The former Ketu South MP who was addressing some party Executives at a retreat in Dzodze on Tuesday, marking his first official visit to his home region considered the World Bank of the NDC, indicated that the younger generation in the Volta region is failing to appreciate the contributions of the NDC to the development of the region and the country at large.

This he says is making them [youth] shy away from the NDC which could best be their identity or religion.

He believes there is absolutely no shame in holding onto the NDC as a region since that is a common phenomenon even in countries with advanced democracies like the US.

In the Ghanaian context, he indicated that the NPP remains dominant in the Ashanti and Eastern regions regardless of their performance because the people in the two regions cannot simply forsake their party.

It is in view of this that he stated that the people of the Volta region must accept the NDC as a religion, adding that “your religion may not be the best religion but that’s your religion, is your responsibility to make sure you fix it, you change it. I think we need to let our people appreciate that this is who we are !and there is nothing shameful about it.”

“Somehow, NPP makes it look as if it is wrong for us, Volta people to take the NDC as a religion -there is nothing shameful about it. You go to America today, if you go to New York state, the Democratic party is like a religion, through rain or shine, that’s their party. You go to Califonia the same, you to places where the Republicans are it is the same, there is nothing wrong with it. There is nothing wrong holding onto the clear foundations that have built our country.”

To sustain the loyalty of the people of the Volta region to the course of the NDC, Mr. Kwetey cautioned the leadership of the party from the region to first correct the mistakes of the past and also renew the commitment to ensuring that the region gets the needed development it deserves, a course he pledged to support.

The NDC General Secretary also believes the party has a lot of work to do in Northern Ghana to be able to regain full control of the area which is now being taken over by their fiercest rivals the New Patriotic.

The three-day retreat currently underway in Dzodze in Ketu North is intended to be used to develop a proper roadmap and strategy for the Volta NDC towards election 2024.
