Political Scientist, Prof. Ransford Gyampo says politicians must not wait until it is too late to speak against the ills of governance.

In a Social media post, the political science lecturer at the University of Ghana admonished that those who do that are credited with little commendation instead of being celebrated.

“Those who stay in government and keep quiet about the ills of governance, and only come public when things are in tatters, are worth only a little commendation but not much celebration.”

Prof Gyampo was reacting to the contentions of the Member of Parliament (MP) for Obuasi West Constituency, Kwaku Agyemang Kwarteng who has urged the government to desist from unnecessary spending of the country’s wealth.

Contributing to discussions in Parliament on Thursday, he said Ghana’s economy is on the verge of collapse and that the country needs more than a debt treatment to restore the economy back to life.

“Mr Speaker, in conclusion on the debt, we must simply stop distributing wealth we have not created, we must stop spending money that we do not have”, he added.

But Prof. Gyampo observed, “If we all will see beyond excessive partisanship that breeds political madness, and say it as it is for the purposes of helping to address incidence of bad governance, monumental incompetence and legendary economic mismanagement, Ghana will go places in terms of development.”
