Leadership of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) in the Ashanti Region has refuted claims by the South Dayi, Member of Parliament, Rockson Nelson Dafiamekpor that the party scored single digits in some polling stations during Tuesday’s by-election in Kumawu in the Ashanti Region.
According to the MP, the party performed woefully in some polling stations despite having Branch Executives in those areas.
But the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NDC, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, in an interview with Starr FM said the claims are false, adding that though the party lost the polls the over one thousand votes gained is an indication of progress being made in the stronghold of their rival, the NPP.
“The reportage was inaccurate and did not reflect in any of the polling stations in Kumawu and in all polling stations in Kumawu we never recorded single digit vote in any of these polling stations. As a party we have to make that clear and equally appreciate the people of Kumawu for voting massively to increase our gains in the constituency. Officially, the MP has written to apologize for the post made on Twitter.”
The NDC candidate for the Kumawu by-election, Akwasi Amankwah secured 3,723 votes while the NPP Candidate, Ernest Yaw Anim who won the election garnered 15, 264 votes.
