Bawku Central Member of Parliament Mahama Ayariga has revealed that the Attorney General and Minister for Justice Godfred Yeboah Dame could be dragged to the General Legal Council (GLC) for alleged misconduct if claims by the 3rd accused in the Ato Forson Ambulance case that the AG coerced him to testify against the Minority leader is proven to be true.
On Thursday, Mr. Richard Jakpa alleged in open court that Godfred Dame had repeatedly met with him and attempted to persuade him to falsely implicate Dr. Ato Forson.
Speaking on GHOne TV, Bawku Central MP Mahama Ayariga said the Presiding Judge must take a keen interest in the case and demand for evidence.
“I will urge the judge that this happened in open court and once it happened in open court, everybody is interested and it is public record. Once the third accused has given his testimony in open court, the public is interested and we expect her to enquire into that to expel evidence to be brought to establish that” the lawmaker stated.
But Private legal Practitioner, Sampson Lardy Anyenini disagrees with the call for the judge to demand further evidence in the matter.
According to him, it is the duty of the Attorney General to discredit the allegations leveled against him if he deems it necessary.
While dismissing the claims by the 3rd accused, the Attorney-General insisted that Richard Jakpa had instead sent several letters requesting a plea bargain in a bid for the state to drop all charges against the accused persons.
He added that the proposal has not yet been accepted.
