Ghana’s Black Starlets suffered a disappointing defeat against Nigeria on Tuesday afternoon, settling for a fourth-place finish in the 2024 WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship.

The Black Starlets, despite being the favorites for the title, suffered a 3-2 loss at the University of Ghana Stadium, resulting in their loss and missing out on the bronze medal.

The team faced a significant challenge due to the resignation of head coach Laryea Kingston following Saturday’s defeat to Burkina Faso.

Nigeria took an early lead in the first half with Imrana Muhammed’s rebound in the ninth minute.

However, Ghana swiftly responded, with Herve Garfa restoring parity shortly after and then giving Ghana the lead in the 28th minute with a brilliant flick from a right-hand cross.

Ghana struggled to maintain their lead, conceding an equalizer just before halftime through Abdulmuiz Adeleke’s powerful header.

Nigeria sealed the victory in added time with Adeleke netting his second goal, securing the win for the Golden Eaglets.
