A military officer in his late 30s was shot dead in Millennium City during a land dispute, while two other officers narrowly escaped death.
The incident occurred near the Millennium City District Police Command at Kasoa in the Central region of Ghana.
According to reports, the brother of one of the military officers had purchased land from land owner identified as Winnebo Ndego.
However, a group led by one Fiifi consistently prevented them from developing the land.
On the evening of April 30, 2024, the deceased officer and two fellow military officers, in uniform, went to the land to assess the situation.
They found another group working on the property.
The officers called for the group to stop and settle the matter at the police station since an initial complaint has been lodged already but the group did not comply.
The officers then drove to the Millennium City District Police Command to file another complaint and inquire about their initial report.
As they prepared to follow up with the Central East Regional Police Command, Benlord Ababio, the Gyasehene of Millennium City angrily arrived .
When the officers continued driving, Ababio, also known as Nana Ben, drew a pistol and opened fire on the military vehicle in front of the Police station.
One officer was killed on the spot, while the other two managed to escape.
Ababio has since been arrested and is in police custody assisting with the investigation.
The owner of 21 Century Construction Company, Kofi Asmah, alleged that some police officers in the area are involved with land guards hence fail to act on land dispute cases lodged by victims.
Residents in Millennium City are living in fear due to the land guard threat.
The body of the deceased officer has been sent to the mortuary for autopsy and preservation.
