A renowned Nigerian musician Chined Okoli, better known by his stage name Flavour, has backed up Jamaican reggae icon Buju Banton’s recent accusations against Afrobeat musicians.
In a podcast in My Opinion on TikTok,” Flavour shared his thoughts and uttered that, in some ways, Banton was correct when he said that Afrobeat musicians are lazy and that the genre will eventually die out because musicians who only focus on Afrobeat music usually do it for the vibe.
Flavour feels that Afrobeats is shallow. “I get what Buju Banton’s attempting to convey. The current generation of Afrobeat artists,
“Just wants to vibe; they don’t want stress.” “Maybe Buju Banton is trying to awaken our spirit.” Nonetheless, the “Agba Baller” hitmaker separated himself from the Afrobeat scene.
He made it clear that he is not an Afrobeat performer, but rather a high-life artist. Concerns were also shown by him on the fact that all African musicians have chosen to label their music as Afrobeat.
