The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia of hypocrisy and dishonesty in their handling of sole sourcing in government procurement.

At a press conference held at the NDC headquarters in Accra, Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communication Officer, disclosed that while in opposition, both Akufo-Addo and Bawumia had vehemently condemned sole sourcing, labeling it as corrupt and vowing never to use it.

He quoted President Akufo-Addo’s 2016 declaration, “The era of sole sourcing will come to an end under my presidency,” and Bawumia’s tweet, “Overpricing of contracts through the use of sole sourcing is very typical of this John Mahama NDC government.”

However, Mr. Gyamfi alleged that upon assuming office, Bawumia and his family have become the biggest beneficiaries of dubious and overpriced sole-sourced contracts. “Time has once again exposed the dishonesty and duplicity of the chronic liar, Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia on the issue of sole sourcing,” he said.

Mr. Gyamfi emphasized that sole sourcing has become the norm under the NPP government, with several dubious contracts awarded to relatives and cronies of the Vice President. “Bawumia today is the biggest promoter and beneficiary of sole sourcing,” he accused.

The NDC has, therefore, called out the government for its hypocrisy and failure to deliver on its promises, demanding accountability and transparency in government procurement.
