The Minister for the Interior, Henry Quartey, has announced the renewal of a curfew on Chereponi Township and its environs in the North East Region, effective Wednesday, August 14, 2024.
The curfew, which will be in place from 10:00 pm to 4:00 am, aims to maintain peace and order in the area amidst rising tensions.
“Government continues to urge Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them as well as to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace in the area.” Minister Quartey said in a statement.
The government has also imposed a total ban on all persons in the affected communities and its environs from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapon.
“Meanwhile, there is a total ban on all persons in the afore-mentioned communities and its environs from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapon and any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.” The Minister warned.
The curfew and ban on arms are part of efforts to address the security concerns in the area.
The government is working to ensure the safety and security of all citizens, and urges everyone to cooperate with the authorities to achieve this goal.
