A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and well-known actor, Prince David Osei, has reacted to assertions that his political involvement stems from the demise of his performing career.
In an interview on GHOne TV, Prince David Osei described the assertions as “jokes.”
He said he has been filming constantly and that he has a number of projects coming up. “I have been shooting away from Ghana. Letter to Goddo, my most recent film, has received a Toronto Film Festival nomination. Therefore, that individual is a joke if they tell me I’m into politics since my career is over,” he declared.
When asked why he frequently appears in more Nigerian films than Ghanaian movies, Prince David Osei said that it is because Ghanaian filmmakers are unable to compensate him.
“I have been filming outside Ghana. My recent movie, Letter to Goddo, has been nominated for the Toronto Film Festival. So, if somebody tells me I’m doing politics because my career is dead, then that person is a joke.
They are unable to pay me. They can’t pay when I tell them my price. Additionally, on occasion, I help some of the filmmakers I know. However, the majority of them are unable to pay,” he stated. Reiterating his support for the NPP, Prince David Osei said that he did it out of personal conviction rather than financial gain.
“People believe it could be money. No. You cannot judge everyone or their way of life. I’m not doing it for money or recognition. Nobody has given me any money for politics,” he stated.
