The Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC) has asserted its dedication to environmental sustainability and social responsibility in the enforcement of its projects.
In an interview on Morning Starr with Lantam Papanko, the Chief Executive Officer of PHDC, Mr. Charles Owusu, emphasized the corporation’s core ethics, which include sustainability.
PHDC’s aim is to create a world-class petroleum hub that will drive economic growth and development in Ghana. The corporation has attained 20,000 acres of land for the project, which will be used for varied petroleum-related activities.
“As part of our core values, we have sustainability in there. It tells you that we’ve taken the environment seriously and we have a department or a division known as the Sustainability Division,” Mr. Owusu said. He added that PHDC has two main pillars: to impact the economy while being conscious of the environment and to empower people through local content maximization.
Mr. Owusu also revealed that PHDC plans to plant 500,000 trees on the 20,000 acres of land, in collaboration with the Forestry Commission. This initiative aims to reduce emissions and survey carbon footprint trading. “Once that is done, it gives us the concept of reducing emissions and also helps us to go into carbon footprint trading or carbon trading. So, it tells you that we’ve taken the environment seriously and we’re going to work in line with the SDG goals,” he affirmed.
PHDC’s commitment to environmental sustainability and social responsibility is a positive step towards secure development in the petroleum industry. As the corporation moves forward with its projects, it is needful to ensure that these values are upheld and made a priority.
