President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has sacked the director general of the National Sports Authority Dodzie Numekevor.
The decision to sack him on the back of the national embarrassment takes immediate effect after a meeting at the Jubilee House.
President Akufo-Addo is said to have decided to relieve the Director of the Sports Authority of his post following the news on the withdrawal of the approval for the use of the Baba Yara stadium for category 3 games after poor quality of the pitch and other infractions were identified after the Ghana and Angola AFCON qualifier in Kumasi.
The termination letter dated 17 September 2024 read;
“I am directed by the President of the Republic to inform you that your appointment as the Director-General of the National Sports Authority has been terminated with immediate effect.”
“You are directed to hand over your office to the Chairman of the Governing Board of the Authority, who is copied on this letter. Please ensure that you hand over and cease to act as the Director-General of the Authority no later than the close of business on 17 September 2024.
The President thanks you for your service to the nation and extends his best wishes,” the termination letter further read.
Dr Dodzie Numekevor was appointed as the interim director general of the National Sports Authority in February 2024, following the departure of Professor Peter Twumasi.
Ghana is still scouting for a possible venue for the Black Stars qualifiers in October after the only approved venue(Baba Yara) also lost its approval.
