Running mate for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has accused Prof. Charles Marfo, Provost for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at KNUST, of being a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
This comes after Prof. Marfo suggested a “shoot and kill” approach to combat the galamsey menace in an interview with Prof. S.F Gyasi on AbusuaFM‘s Bresosem last Saturday edition.
Prof. Marfo had argued that the severity of the galamsey menace, which is destroying lives, land, and water bodies, warrants drastic measures.
He also referenced that this suggestion was previously made by a Member of Parliament, which he agreed with.
However, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, running mate for the NPP, countered Prof. Marfo’s suggestion while addressing a campaign crowd.
He stated, “When they wanted votes, they said they would free them. Now that they are coming, they’re telling the NPP that we should shoot the galamseyers, but tell them we will not shoot them today or tomorrow.”
