The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has heightened its demands by requesting international oversight for auditing the Provisional Voters Register.
In a petition dated, September 17,2024, to the Electoral Commission (EC), the NDC claims there has been systemic manipulation and inconsistencies in the voter data, which they fear could undermine the upcoming election.
“We demand that the EC convene a meeting with international stakeholders such as ECOWAS, the United Nations, and the European Union to ensure a transparent audit process,” the petition states. The NDC insists that these international organizations should participate in an independent forensic audit to address concerns over unauthorized voter transfers, missing information, and corrupted data. “We believe international oversight will guarantee the credibility of the electoral process,” said Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, National Chairman of the NDC.
The call for international involvement follows the discovery of over 243,000 unauthorized voter transfers. “The scale of these illegal transfers is shocking, and we demand answers about who was behind them,” the petition asserts. The NDC alleges that many voters’ details were changed or transferred without their knowledge, undermining their ability to vote in the correct constituencies.
Moreover, the NDC pointed to over 15,000 untraceable voter registration paths, suggesting potential manipulation or fraud within the voter database. “The missing registration paths raise serious concerns about the validity of the voter data. If not addressed, this could lead to widespread voter suppression,” the petition warns.
