The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has requested live coverage of their upcoming meeting with the Electoral Commission (EC).

In a letter dated September 4, 2024, and signed by Hon. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the general secretary, the party claimed that making the meeting public would encourage openness. “We request for a live broadcast of our presentation of observations found in the Provisional Voters Register (PVR) to your team.”

“This, we believe, will give true meaning to transparency as found in your motto,” Hon. Kwetey added.

This comes after the EC suggested a meeting with the NDC on September 6, 2024, as part of their continued engagement, to talk further about the voter exhibition exercise. “We propose a meeting on Friday, 6th September 2024, at 2:00 pm, at the Corporate Head Office of the Electoral Commission.”

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana reacted to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) after concerns were expressed over the validity of the Provisional Voters Register (PVR) ahead of the 2024 General Elections.

Bossman Eric Asare, Deputy Chairman for Corporate Services, stressed in a letter dated 28 August 2024 that the existing registry, “Like any human endeavor, is bound to contain human errors and discrepancies.”

Dr. Asare went on to say that a crucial in guaranteeing the final register’s validity is the voter exhibition activity. “The law has set aside a period to Exhibit the Provisional Register to ensure that anomalies and inaccuracies are corrected. This has been the practice since the beginning of the Fourth Republic. This is not new,” the letter read.

The EC reassured the NDC that it is dedicated to providing a reliable registration for the next election. “Our team is working around the clock to ensure that all anomalies and issues with the Register are addressed before the Final Voters Register is produced.”
