The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has unveiled Dr. Tia Abdul-Kabiru Mahama as the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for the Walewale constituency.
According to the party, the decision was made by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the NPP, following a meeting held on Wednesday, September 11, 2024.
“The National Executive Committee of the New Patriotic Party, at its meeting held on Wednesday, September 11, 2014, unanimously confirmed Dr. Tia Abdul-Kabiru Mahama as the Party’s Parliamentary Candidate for the Walewale constituency,” the statement disclosed.
Dr Tia’s candidature followed the departure of Hon. Lariba Zuweira Abudu, the current Member of Parliament for Walewale, from the parliamentary contest. The NPP voiced that, “The decision was arrived at, following the withdrawal of Hon. Lariba Zuweira Abudu.” Her resignation, together with that of one of the two aspirants, left Dr. Tia Abdul-Kabiru Mahama as the only candidate for the seat.
The party has commended Hon. Zuweira’s move, describing it as a show of great regard and unity. “The Party regards in high esteem, the decision of Hon. Zuweira to bow out of the race,” the statement remarked. The party also urged on all stakeholders in the constituency to support Dr. Tia Abdul-Kabiru Mahama. “The Party appeals to all stakeholders of the Walewale constituency to offer their unflinching support to the candidacy of Dr. Tia Abdul-Kabiru Mahama.”
