On August 22, Ban Ki-moon who is the Chief Convener of the Global Chamber of Commerce Presidents’ Summit and the 8th Secretary-General of the United Nations held a second working meeting with Li Nonghe who is the Chairman of the World Chinese Business Advancement Association in Seoul South Korea. During the meeting, it was confirmed that the Global Presidents’ Summit will be grandly held at Asia Television in Hong Kong on November 18-19 this year.

The theme of the conference is: “Peace of World Development, Prosperity of the Asia-Pacific Economy.”

The Global Chamber of Commerce Presidents’ Cooperation Committee is an international NGO registered in the United States. It was jointly established by the World Chinese Business Advancement Association, Foundation for Globalization Cooperation, the World Korean Business Association, the German Business Association and World Laureates Association. In 2019, the first council meeting was held with Wang Zhixiong, Chairman of the Shanghai Federation of Industry and Commerce; Wang Jianyi, Chairman of the Zhejiang Federation of Industry and Commerce; Wu Yijian, Vice Chairman of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce; and leaders of China’s top 500 enterprises; including Zheng Yuanbao, Wu Jianrong, He Shijin, Lin Duansheng, and Dai Yuqiang. The former Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, was appointed as the first council chairman.

During his recent meeting with Li Nonghe in South Korea, Ban Ki-moon emphasized that the world urgently needs a global business organization to revitalize the economy. Hong Kong, in particular, needs such a forum to drive future development, and China also requires this conference to expand the Belt and Road Initiative. He expressed high expectations for the conference’s contribution to sustainable economic development in the Asia-Pacific region and globally.

Executive Chairman of the conference, Liu Mengxiong, who is an Honorary Retired Member of the National Committee of The Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, National Committee (CPPCC) and a Member of the Strategic Development Committee of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, stated that thousands of listed companies in Hong Kong will actively participate in this summit and promote resource restructuring cooperation with mainland Chinese enterprises.

Co-Chairman of the conference and Chairman of the Foundation for Globalization Cooperation , Sun Fang, noted that this year marks the 25th anniversary of the Globalization Cooperation Forum. He plans to leverage the 25 years of experience and foundation built by the forum to ensure the successful convening of the Hong Kong summit through strong partnerships.

Tang Junjie, Co-Chairman of the conference and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hong Kong Asia Television Limited, announced that the 2,000-square-meter top-tier luxury studio hall at the ATV Building in Hong Kong will host the event, with many Hong Kong celebrities and Miss Asia contestants expected to make spectacular appearances.

Tu Lihua, Secretary-General of the conference organizing committee, along with Vice Presidents Wang Ping, Gong Gaofeng, Wen Gongzi, and Han Shengli; Hua Zan, Chairman of the Overseas Project Committee of the World Chinese Business Advancement Association; Lin Ruibin, Secretary-General of the Project Committee; and Xiao Shuanglong, Executive Director of the Project Committee expressed that although time is tight, the entire organizing committee is striving to make this conference the highest-level economic cooperation event since Hong Kong’s return to China. The advisory panel for this summit comprises a hundred political and business elites, including Zeng Yucheng, Zeng Junhua, Shao Jiahui, Cheng Yan, Wu Zhiliang, and Bei Junqi, as well as organizations like the Hong Kong Import and Export Association, the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce of Hong Kong, the Chaozhou Chamber of Commerce, the Zhejiang Chamber of Commerce, the Fujian Chamber of Commerce, the Anhui Chamber of Commerce, the Shandong Chamber of Commerce, and the Hong Kong Listed Companies Alliance. HSBC and other institutions are expected to be named sponsors.

The organizing committee also plans to invite Angela Merkel, John Major, Elon Musk, Masayoshi Son, Dhanin Chearavanont, Cao Dewang, Jack Ma, Jensen Huang, Wang Yongxiang, Terry Gou, Lawrence Ho, Xiong Xiaoge, Pansy Ho, Victor Li, Yu Minhong, Zheng Yuanbao, Wu Jianrong, Shi Guilu, Dong Mingzhu, Yan Jiehe, Lang Xianping, as well as Nobel Prize-winning scientists to attend or speak at the event.

This Hong Kong summit coincides with the 35th anniversary of the founding of the World Chinese Business Advancement Association. The association was initially planned and established in Hong Kong in 1990 under the guidance and care of the renowned patriotic overseas Chinese leaders, Zhuang Shiping and Chen Xiangmei. The original intention of establishing the association was to actively respond to Deng Xiaoping’s reform and opening-up policy by introducing capital, projects, and talent into mainland China and creating international pathways. Thirty-five years later, the Global Chamber of Commerce Presidents’ Cooperation Committee, initiated by the core members of the association, is taking concrete actions to implement China’s “Community of Shared Future for Mankind” and the “Belt and Road Initiative” proposals.
