Minister for Roads and Highways, Francis Asenso-Boakye, has called on Ghanaians, particularly residents of the Ashanti Region, to vote for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming December 7th, 2024 elections to ensure the continuation of critical road and infrastructural projects across the country.
Speaking to Bantama constituents after the NPP’s Bantama Big Walk 2024 event, Asenso-Boakye, who is also the MP for Bantama Constituency, emphasized that the NPP has a proven track record of delivering significant infrastructural development, especially in the Ashanti Region.
“For us in Bantama and across the Ashanti Region, we know that it is only under NPP administrations that we see substantial infrastructural development. If you want the region to continue developing, the best decision is to vote for the NPP’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, on December 7, 2024,” he said.
Asenso-Boakye urged voters to compare the records of the NPP and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) over their respective eight-year periods in office.
He highlighted the massive difference in road construction achievements between the two parties. “When the NDC was in government, they constructed about 4,636 kilometers of roads in eight years. By the end of 2024, the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government will be approaching 14,000 kilometers of completed roads across the country. That’s a significant difference one that shows our work is far better than what the NDC did in office,” the minister stressed.
He went on to say that the difference in performance between the two parties is as vast as “the Atlantic Ocean,” adding that the NPP has outperformed the NDC in all sectors of governance, including health, education, and sports.
Focusing on the upcoming presidential contest between Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and former President John Dramani Mahama, Asenso-Boakye pointed out that both candidates have served as vice presidents before, but Bawumia’s track record stands out.
“Even though the constitution does not assign direct roles to the vice president, Dr. Bawumia has, through his own initiative and hard work, introduced over 20 policy programs that have greatly benefited the country. When we asked former President Mahama to point to just one policy program he introduced as vice president, he has yet to respond because there is none,” Asenso-Boakye noted, mocking Mahama’s record.
He described Dr. Bawumia as a hardworking, competent leader with the ability to design policies that address the challenges facing Ghana as a developing nation. “Dr. Bawumia is not lazy, and he will not be a lazy president when elected. He will be a diligent and effective president because that is the kind of leader Ghana needs.”
The Bantama MP also commended the NPP supporters from the Ashanti Region and other MPs and ministers who attended the campaign launch in large numbers.
He assured them of his dedication to ensuring that the Bantama Constituency delivers overwhelming votes in the December 2024 elections to secure Dr. Bawumia’s victory as Ghana’s next president, following in the footsteps of President Nana Akufo-Addo.
