The Paramount Chief of Wechiau, Naa Imoru Nandong Gomah II, has reaffirmed the Wa West Constituency’s unwavering support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), declaring it as non-negotiable. This assurance was made during a courtesy call by former President John Dramani Mahama as part of his three-day campaign tour of the Upper West Region.
Addressing the gathering of chiefs and community members, Naa Gomah II expressed confidence in the NDC’s return to power, emphasizing that the constituency’s loyalty to the party has remained steadfast through the years.
“We have been praying and wishing for us to come back to power, and the opportunity has come. It is possible because we have done it before, and we can do it again. Our unwavering loyalty to the NDC party is still intact. It is non-negotiable,” the Paramount Chief stated. He further assured Mr. Mahama, “You and your MP should rest assured of our support.”
Drawing on a local proverb to solidify the constituency’s enduring allegiance, Naa Gomah II remarked, “There is a common saying that when you know someone during the day, you don’t need a torchlight to identify the same person during the night. That has been the stand of the constituency for the NDC.”
In closing, the Paramount Chief called on Mr. Mahama to remember the Wa West constituency when ministerial appointments are made if the NDC returns to power in the 2024 general elections.
“His Excellency, when you come back early next year on the Thank You Tour amidst fanfare and jubilation, we shall discuss our challenges in detail with you. However, there is one demand we wish to make now: when you get to the Jubilee House, Inshallah, remember us, remember our MP when you are making your ministerial appointments,” Naa Gomah II concluded.
Mahama’s visit to the Wa West constituency is part of his broader campaign efforts as he seeks to galvanize support for the NDC’s bid to reclaim power in the upcoming elections.
