The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is on track to seize control of Ghana’s Parliament in the upcoming 2024 general elections, according to a forecast by Global InfoAnalytics.
The report predicts the NDC will secure approximately 150 seats, significantly outpacing the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), which is projected to win 99 seats. One independent candidate is also expected to secure a seat, while 29 constituencies remain too close to call.
This potential shift could end the NPP’s dominance in the legislative branch, creating a conducive environment for the NDC to implement its policies if former President John Dramani Mahama also secures the presidency.
Key battlegrounds include constituencies in Greater Accra and Central regions, where the NDC has made significant inroads.
The predictions underscore a growing momentum for the NDC, buoyed by dissatisfaction with the current government. However, with nearly 30 seats hanging in the balance, the final composition of Parliament will depend on voter turnout and last-minute campaign efforts.
The election results, set to be announced after polls close on December 7, could reshape Ghana’s political landscape for years to come.
