In an almost instant response to President Akufo-Addo’s description of intermittent power supply as his legacy, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Flag bearer, John Mahama has warned his successor against lying to the public about his record.
President Akufo-Addo at a campaign stop to rally support for his vice-president and now Presidential Candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, ridiculed Mr. Mahama’s 24-hour Economy initiative wondering how it could be achieved when the NDC government could not “keep the lights on for 12 hours”.
The president had continued to criticize his predecessor for ‘dumsor,’ the erratic power supply experienced during former President Mahama’s administration.
However, speaking in response to the jab at him, Mr. Mahama who invoked Scriptures said the president was being untruthful about his record. He said ‘dumsor’ was solved before he left office eight years ago.
“I expect that when NPP is telling lies, they will leave it to the younger ones and the junior ones to do. But when the senior ones like Nana Akufo-Addo says that dumsor was not solved before we came, I heard him say that in 2016 we could not keep the lights one, how can we run a 24-hour economy?
“In 2016, dumsor had been solved and nobody’s light went off in 2016. Nobody had load shedding in 2016, that is the record. Go and look at GridCo records, ECG records, nobody had load shedding in 2016 and that is a fact,” former President Mahama stressed.
The NDC leader described dumsor as a “generational problem as a result of a lack of addition of power generation over the years” that reached a summit during his tenure.
He added that he promised Ghanaians he was going to solve the issue which he did.
