The Agona West Constituency branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expelled 280 members, including incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) Cynthia Morrison, effective December 16, 2024.
This decision was made unanimously by the Expanded Constituency Executive Committee, citing breaches of the party’s constitution as the reason.
According to the Constituency Chairman, Alhaji Gibrine Tanko, in a statement dated December 16, the expelled members are banned indefinitely from holding themselves out as party members, holding any party position, attending or participating in party meetings or activities, and using any party symbol or flag.
The expulsion follows several complaints from party members about the individuals’ actions during the 2024 parliamentary elections.
These members were accused of standing as independent candidates against the NPP’s officially elected parliamentary candidate, supporting other political parties, and backing independent candidates in the December 7, 2024 elections.
“The National and Regional Party leadership and the General Public are hereby notified that the following members have ceased to be members of the party, effective today in accordance with Article 3(9)(1) of the Party’s Constitution (2017) as amended. These individuals have been banned indefinitely from: Holding themselves out as members of the party, holding any position in the party, attending or participating in any party meetings or activities and using any party symbol or flag.”
